Eurovision 2021 | Vangelis Kakouriotis is interested to sing for Cyprus at Eurovision
Last month, the Cypriot broadcaster revealed that their Eurovision 2020 participant Sandro would not be returning to Eurovision 2021 for Cyprus. In light of this, Cyprus have opted to go for a new internal selection for Eurovision 2021.
Since the announcement that Sandro would not be returning in 2021, the rumour mill has started up, and a few names for Cyprus 2021 have been mentioned, among them Ivi Adamou (2012) and Eleni Foureira (2018), as well as Vangelis Kakouriotis. But this isn't the first time that Vangelis has been linked to Eurovision. He has stated his interest in representing the Island nation at Eurovision as far back as last year. Speaking to Greek television channel Star Greece in 2019, Vangelis had this to say:
"I would be interested, yes and if the opportunity arises I will take it. It’s a great event worth participating in. When the time comes, me and my co-workers will have faith in the song that the project will produce. I want it to be worth it!"
In a more recent interview with Hello magazine, Vangelis has said: "There has been a lot of discussion with my colleagues about Eurovision. I feel and am ready for such a move! Cyprus has always supported me in every step, it will be my great joy and honor if I am given the opportunity to support it too!"
Vangelis is a 23 year old singer originally from Greece who started his career as a member of a boy band before going solo. He is currently signed to Panik Records, which is the same record label as fellow Eurovision alumni Eleni Foureira (2018), Demy (2017) and Ivi Adamou (2012). He has released three albums and a string of hit pop songs. He has also won numerous awards, including the MAD Video Music Award for best newcomer.
Check out his most recent song, "Φοίβος - Παιδί Από Σπίτι", which was released last month.
