Junior Eurovision 2020 | Greece will not return to Junior Eurovision
Last week, we reported that Greek broadcaster ERT were considering a return to Junior Eurovision, but as of today, we can confirm that Greece will not be returning to Junior Eurovision this year.
Eurovision Fun have reported that the Greek broadcaster have made the decision to not participate in Junior Eurovision 2020 in Warsaw, with ERT's management deciding that they will continue on with non-participation in Junior Eurovision. Next year, they will once again consider a Junior Eurovision return.
"The company’s management decided to continue the same policy this year, namely abstention." Maria Koufopoulou, director of International Relations for ERT.
Greece made their Junior Eurovision debut in 2003, and participated every year until 2008. Among their six participations, they managed 3 top 10 placings, with Alexandros and Kalli holding the record for Greece's best Junior Eurovision result when they finished in 6th place in 2005 with their song "Tora einai i seira mas". Greece announced their withdrawal from the contest in April 2009, citing low ratings and the current economic crisis as their main reasons.
