Eurovision 2021 | Hurricane look set to return to Eurovision 2021

Hurricane were due to represent Serbia in 2020 after winning their nation's sleection show, Beovizija.

Local Media in Serbia are reporting that girl band Hurricane, who won the right to represent Serbia at Eurovision 2020, will get their chance to perform on the Eurovision stage in 2021. The popular Serbian tabloid Blic is reporting that Hurricane will return next year for multiple reasons.

It is being claimed that the musical trio wanted the chance to return in 2021 whilst the COVID-19 pandemic had also limited national broadcaster, RTS’ funds to re-run Beovizija next spring. This would imply that if it Hurricane’s participation in Rotterdam 2021 is confirmed, the song will likely be internally selected. Rather than having a national final with one artist similar to what Romania did with Roxen this year and what Go_A plan to do next season, RTS would likely choose the song privately due to to the financial restrictions lockdown has had on many broadcasters.

Blic also wrote that the national broadcaster and Hurricane themselves will reveal this officially “within the coming weeks” and that it is only a matter of time before the news is official. There is large speculation that the news is truthful. However, these reports are not yet official but are just made up of strong speculation and rumours within Serbian media.

In March 2020, Hurricane won Serbia’s national final performing the Song “Hasta La Vista” with a landslide victory. The Group is made up of Ivana Nikolić, Ksenija Knežević and finally, Sanja Vuĉić who also represented Serbia as a solo artist in 2016. They won both the jury and televote in the final and quickly became a well-noticed and popular favourite amongst fans for their up-tempo flair, fiery dance moves and the song’s catchy beat. Hurricane also won the ‘OGAE Beovision Award’ that is awarded to the favourite of the Serbian Selection Show’s associate members.

The entry was set to be Serbia’s first uptempo song in Eurovision since Bojana Stemanov secured an impressive 10th place finish in 2015 with her empowering song, “Beauty Never Lies”. It had been predicted to secure Serbia a sure place in the Grand Final but of course, now if the rumours prove true, they will need to find a brand-new song. If the speculation becomes official, Hurricane will surely provide an intriguing and enthusiastic Eurovision 2021 entry.
