Eurovision 2020 | Lesley Roy will sing 'Story Of My Life' for Ireland

After many months of silence, we finally have Ireland's entry for Eurovision 2020! Dublin based singer songwriter Lesley Roy will sing 'Story Of My Life' in the first half of the first semi final. The song was revealed on RTE's 2FM Breakfast Show with Doireann and Eoghan. Lesley is expected to give her first live performance of the song tonight at popular Dublin nightclub, The George. Talking about her song, Lesley has said: “We wanted something uptempo and triumphant, which centres around overcoming your difficulties in life and getting back up again”.

The song has been written and produced by Lesley herself, alongside Catt Gravitt, Robert Marvin and Tom Shapiro, who have all worked with the likes of Ilse DeLange and Kelly Clarkson. Speaking of the the music video, that was directed by Kate Dolan, Lesley has said: “Kate came up with a treatment that would work in showing the triumphant energy that here we are shining bright and ready to have fun. It completely captures what I wanted to create in the song. Kate understood that it wasn’t supposed to show people being angry or sad, but show that we can and we will defy them, rise up and throw a massive dance party to celebrate! She also cast individuals that truly did have their own story. Kate stayed true to the song and I think it will really shine through in the video.”

Michael Kealey, head of delegation for Ireland, is very happy about Ireland's choice for Rotterdam. Speaking at the press release, he had this to say: “We are extremely excited about Lesley Roy and this year’s Irish entry, Story of My Life. The song is fresh and uplifting, it’s a banger, and we are very much looking forward to working with Lesley and THISISPOPBABY in preparation for our performance on the biggest music stage in the world in Rotterdam in May.”

Lesley was born in Dublin, but currently resides in New York. She released her debut album, Unbeautiful in 2008, which achieved minor success. Since then, she has shifted her attention to songwriting, and has worked with artists like Adam Lambert, Jana Kramer, Medina and Miss Montreal. Now, Lesley is back to singing, and is very much looking forward to her Eurovision journey: “My mindset for the coming months is to train, rehearse, prepare, perform, execute and hopefully bring Eurovision glory back to Ireland once again.”
