Eurovision 2020 | Weekly news roundup!


It's been a busy week in Eurovision world, and it's only going to get busier with the second Super Saturday of this season coming up on February 29th! So let's see what's been happening this past week in the world of Eurovision.


Tom Leeb has been confirmed as the tenth act for the London Eurovision Party on Sunday March 29th. He joins Samanta Tīna, Blas Cantó, Arilena Ara, Vincent Bueno, The Roop and Victoria, as well as Sieneke who represented The Netherlands in 2010 and Michael Rice who represented the United Kingdom in 2019.

Brotherhood of Man, who won the contest for the United Kingdom in 1976 with "Save Your Kisses For Me", have been confirmed as special guests for Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam. Each year, the organisers like to invite former Eurovision winners to perform, and this year is no exception. Last year, Germany's winner from 1982, Nicole, performed.

Following on from her Depi Evratesil win with "Chains On You", Athena Manoukian revealed on Instagram that her song would be undergoing a revamp, whilst over in Slovenia, Ana Soklič is still undecided whether or not her song "Voda" will remain in Slovenian for Eurovision, or if it will be changed to English.

On Thursday 28th February, we had not one, but two song and artist reveals, and they both came from Big 5 countries!

Germany revealed its artist and song for Eurovision 2020, and it's... Ben Dolic with the song 'Violent Thing'! He was selected internally, and the song, together with a live acoustic version of it, was presented during the 'Unser Lied Für Rotterdam' show.

Benjamin Dolić, better known as Ben Dolic, is a 22 years old Slovenian singer. He gained popularity in Germany after his participation in the eighth season of The Voice of Germany in 2018, where he was the runner up. He also participated with the group D Base in EMA 2016; However, their entry "Spet živ" did not advance to the super final.

“Violent Thing” has a strong team behind. It was written by Connor Martin, Dag Lundberg, Jimmy Thoren, Peter St James and Borislav Milanov, under the record label Symphonix Music. The song will be staged by US choreographer Marty Kudelka, who is Justin Timberlake's exclusive choreographer and artistic director, who's choreography has been featured at the MTV Video Awards, Brits, Grammys, Kids Choice Awards and many more!

The BBC announced that the United Kingdom's entry for Eurovision 2020 will be 'My Last Breath', performed by James Newman. The announcement was made during the 'Radio 1 breakfast show with Greg James'. The song is a mid-tempo anthem with a very catchy hook.

James Richard Newman is an English singer-songwriter based in London and he is actually the brother of British pop star John Newman! James Newman is a multi-award winning artist, with multi-platinum selling songs. He is best known for Number One hits ‘Waiting All Night’ by Rudimental ft. Ella Eyre and ‘Blame’ by Calvin Harris ft. John Newman, as well as singles ‘Lay It All On Me’ by Rudimental ft. Ed Sheeran, ‘All I Am’ by Jess Glynne and ‘Love Me Like You’ by Little Mix. He has also written songs for Jessie Ware, Kesha, Olly Murs, ZAYN, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and James Arthur, and he won a Brit Award for British Single of the Year as a co-writer of "Waiting All Night" in 2014.
