The second song I'm going to analyse is "Insieme 1992" that was composed by Salvatore Cutugno and won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1990 for Italy. The reason why I chose this song is because people tend to forget the history sometimes and see the bigger picture how Eurovision Song contest has changed and why it started. This song exemplifies the era very well and what people felt after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. That's why I want to analyse a song and the meaning of it due to the main events that happened during that time.

It's not a secret that this song is about the political event that happened in 1989 and led to many songs in the contest being about creating unity among the European countries. I think he sings about his own feelings; how he felt a thirst for freedom of peace and hoping to live more freely in a new modern era after the fall of the Berlin wall. The part about "1992", is the year when the European Union was scheduled to start. You can hear in his voice and the vocal part of it that he tries to show how much he wants people to feel hopeful about a better future for all. The back vocalists add also to the perspective of being united with Toto's voice.
The song in itself is creating a vibe of hope. Theme of the song creates an illusion that we can build a peaceful European union that can stand against corruption and war. Creating such a wakening story line is a way to connect to people trough something many struggled with in the 90's before the economic crisis.
I would say it's a very playful pop ballad with base in the song that shows the seriousness. Instrumentation in this song is more powerful with the orchestra that gives the feeling of being more majestic, especially with the theme that he sings about.
Conclusion: My thoughts
I really like this song and the meaning of it. But I like also the deep slow base in the song the gives the song a powerful meaning. Singing about an important message that gives the view of how it was living in that decade. The struggle of not feeling a glimmer of hope and sudden singing about a united future. I like that and it's very brave doing it in Eurovision Song Contest.
