Finally we have some new news on Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2020. The applications are now open to send in songs, but you are only able to send in an application between November 1st and November 8th. The winner of UMK 2020 will be able to represent Finland next year in Rotterdam.
On November 30th, the contestants who have qualified will be contacted personally. The UMK 2020 contestants will be revealed on January 21st, 2020. A panel of experts will decide what entry will be competing in the UMK final. The final for UMK will be held at the Mediapolis TV Studio in Tampere. UMK will be broadcast live on YLE TV1 and YLE Aarena.
Tickets for the event will not be sold due to limited capacity, but you will be able to register for the broadcast audience. Registration will open in early 2020.
Because of bad results in the recent years, YLE will try again to have an open application to Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020. This is after they invited one artist to compete in 2018 and 2019 with 3 songs that were selected by the jury and public. UMK will partner up with the radio network YleX, that focuses on young musicans to help and boost acts in the competition. The amount of participants that will compete in the final hasn't been decided yet.
