Eurovision 2020 | Jon Ola Sand To Stand Down As Executive Supervisor After The Next Contest

Jon Ola Sand, the Eurovision Song contest's Executive Supervisor, and live Eurovision events has today announced that he will step down from his current role after the next contest in Rotterdam 2020.
The man who has been responsible for key changes, and the evolution of the contest for the last nine years, will no longer continue that role after May next year. With progress for the next Eurovision in full swing, there will now be a search for his successor.
He will no longer be in charge of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovision Choir of the Year, and the Young musicians. Instead, in unexpected news today he was keen to mention that he will beginning a new role at NRK, at the head of the public broadcaster.
Today's announcement came via twitter, where he said,
"I have been involved with the Eurovision Song Contest for over 20 years. First as Head of Delegation for Norway, then as Executive Producer in Oslo 2010, and I have been privileged to have been the captain pf the ship in Geneva for the past 9 years.... Rotterdam ill be my 10th contest as Executive Supervisor, and it seems to be a good time to pass on the baton, and take on a new challenge at NRK. In my new role I will work to ensure that NRK continues to be a world-class broadcaster, and will be in the best possible shape for the future".

Many will come to miss the whit, and charm of the much loved Eurovision Royal, who has over seen several changes whilst he has been in charge. These have included Australia joining the contest, Eurovision Choir of the Year, and several changes in the voting sequence. It is quite fitting that this year will be his tenth contest in charge, and the last time that someone will, "take it away".
Now will be the battle to find the person to take the contest to the next level, and evolve it even further securing it for the next few generations. Rumours have been circulating that Christer Björkman or Sietse Bakker maybe the next person to take over.
All the team at Eurovoxx would like to thank Jon Ola Sand for doing an amazing job as the Executive Supervisor, and wish him all the best in his new role after Rotterdam 2020.
