Eurovision 2020 | Rotterdam Is Eager To Host Eurovision, And Prepared To Invest 15 Million

Things are hotting up in the race to be the next city to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. With several placing bids, and some pulling out of the race altogether. In a few weeks time we will soon know which city has won the right to welcome the world.

It has been announced today that Rotterdam's city council has announced they will be investing 15 million euros, along with an extra 1 million that's added by the province of South Holland, with their bid book to host the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. Will money talk?

The remaining money needed to host can be gathered via crowdfunding, according to Dieke van Groningen, a member of the liberal party (VVD). The motion was voted yes for, with 38 against to 8. of which most of the no- votes came from the PvdD (Animal party) and NIDA (muslim party).

Rotterdam has applied with the arena 'Ahoy" which already hosted several big events, including the Junior Eurovision in 2007 and the 'Nationaal songfestival' 2000, 2001 and 2003. However, with a capacity of about 16.500 in the main arena this is not necessarily the biggest possible arena.

According to NPO, AVROTROS and NOS the final decision and announcement regarding the hosting city are planned to be made in August.
