ESC 2020 | Amsterdam pulls out of the race to host!

Another one bites the dust! Today comes the announcement that the long running favourites to host the contest have decided to withdraw from the race to be the host city.

The main reason on Amsterdam's withdrawal is that they couldn't find a suitable venue that would be available during the several weeks that the venue would be needed for. The Ziggo Dome, The RAI Convention Centre and The Johan Cruyff Arena were the 3 proposed options for Amsterdam and they all have been booked during the time needed and cannot make any cancellations.

In a statement from the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, she stated that they tried to find alternative options of setting up tents in the lowlands. However, this has seemed too complex for the city to pull off.

With Amsterdam now out of the race, there are now 5 cities in the running to host: Rotterdam, Maastricht, Arnhem, Den Bosch and Utrecht. Rotterdam is the only city that has hosted a Eurovision event before, hosting the Junior counterpart back in 2007. They all have until the 10th July to put forward their bidding books and the winning city will be announced sometime in August.
