JESC | Is Scotland Set To Debut At The Junior Eurovision In 2020?
After Wales debuted at hte Junior Eurovision Song Contest last year. The door was left clearly open for other nations from the United Kingdom to participate as individual countries. Scotland was one that were rumoured to make a debut appearance in 2019. Although, this has not happened, there are talks that 2020 could see the country make an appearance at the contest.
After speaking to ESC Takeover, the Scottish broadcaster BBC Alba has confirmed that they will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year. However, they have also not ruled out a potential debut in the junior contest next year in 2020. They have also confirmed that they are in discussions with the EBU in regards of potentially seeing them in 2020 and are also using their experience in Eurovision Choir for future potential Eurovision events.
If they do end up debuting in the contest next year, it will be Scotland's 2nd Eurovision event, after they will be making their debut in Eurovision Choir in Gothenburg, Sweden in August.
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019 is set to take place on the 24th November 2019 in the Gliwice Arena in Gliwice. The following countries have confirmed their participation this year:

Australia
Azerbaijan
Belarus
France
Georgia
Ireland
Italy
Malta
Netherlands
North Macedonia
Poland
Portugal
Russia
Serbia
Spain
Ukraine
Wales
Spain will be making their return to the contest after withdrawing from it in 2007. Israel have decided to withdraw from the contest, with no clear reason to why they have made this decision. Kazakhstan is the only country that participated last year that is yet to confirm their participation. As they are only an associate member of the EBU, they would need to be invited by the EBU in order to take part.
