Spain | Potential Return to Junior Eurovision to be Discussed by Broadcaster

It has been 13 years since the last time the Iberian nation took part in the contest, but now talks are in place for Spain to look into seeing if participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest is possible.

Since they withdrew from the contest, there have been numerous attempts to bring them back. At The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Spanish head of delegation Federico Llano spoke to Eurovision site ESC+ about Spain's participation in Junior Eurovision, stating that: "We don't do Junior Eurovision and we won't take part in this years contest".

In 2015, several media outlets were hinting at a return to the contest for Spain, however, these claims were not confirmed by the Spanish broadcaster. It was also suggested that the EBU were negotiating with private TV channels in Spain to bring them back to the contest, however, nothing came of this and Spain once again sat out the 2015 contest.

In a tweet below that was released by RTVE yesterday, the Head of Delegation, Ana Maria Bordas, have said that they are considering whether they will return to the contest. You can check out the tweet below:

Spain had a very successful time in the contest, debuting in the inaugural contest in 2003 with a highly respectable 2nd place. It then achieved its first win the following year with 'Antes Muerta que Sencilla' by María Isabel. It then achieved 2nd and 4th place in the two following years respectively before eventually withdrawing in 2007.
