After what feels like a really long day filled with some incredible first rehearsals - Azerbaijan is the last to take to the stage! Last year was the first time in their participating history that they have failed to qualify for the final with Aisel's 'X My Heart'. This year they have internally selected Chingiz Mustafayev who will sing 'Truth' at the Song Contest in a bid to return the nation to the final.
Chingiz is a Russian born singer who moved to Baku at the age of 13. In 2007 at the age of 16 he auditioned for Azerbaijan's Pop Idol where he went on to win and become a young rising talent within the country's music scene. He's represented his country at Eastern-European music festival 'New Wave' and also auditioned for The Voice of Ukraine in 2016. Since then he has fronted the band Palmas who meld traditional Azerbaijani and Turkish folk sounds with flamenco guitar, rock, and pop twists.

AZERBAIJAN - FIRST REHEARSAL
The last up but certainly not the least. Chingiz looks very charismatic in a silver & black outfit and is joined on stage by an upside down triangle and two futuristic robotic arms. The performance is very polished but has many different sections to it which keeps us invested for the whole three minutes.
The performance starts with a dark backdrop, and the robotic arms projecting a golden heart on to his chest. Blue lines and wave patterns populate the LED backdrop along with a golden heart that beats along. There's also an impressive section where a CGI Chingiz flies out of his body before snapping back in to it. All in all, a very powerful performance and one to watch out for as shown by his sudden shortening in the odds.
Azerbaijan's second rehearsal will take place on Saturday 11th May and they will be performing eighteenth in the second semi final on Thursday 16th May.
