One more country rehearsed this afternoon before the afternoon break and that was Portugal. Two years ago Portugal won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time with Salvador Sobral and whilst they auto-qualified last year as the host nation in Lisbon, they have to go back through the Semi Finals this year. The man representing Portugal at this years contest is Conan Osiris who will be performing 'Telemóveis'.

Conan competed in Portugal's national selection 'Festival da Canção' and stormed to victory being awarded the maximum number of points from both the jury and the televote. His song is described as being experimental worldbeat which mixes electric rhythms with oriental, Arabic and African beats. With his stage name being based around the main character of Japanese series Future Boy Conan & the Egyptian god Osiris, launched his music career back in 2008 and since then has released two albums and two EPs.

PORTUGAL - FIRST REHEARSAL

Fan favourite Conan comes out on stage wearing a forest green robe and his signature shoes. The dancing is still as irratic/alternative as from the previous performance however it definitely feels like they've toned it all down. They still have the stairs from the national final and during the second accompanying dancer makes his way down the stairs but does not do the death-drop when he reaches the bottom - perhaps a standout of the national selection performance.

The stage for the entirety of the performance is very red and black. A little underwhelming due to how toned down the performance is but I think it could help make it a bit more voter-friendly. The performance ends with Conan leaving the dancer on the floor and going to sit on the staircase.

There's roses on the LED backdrop, with a giant rose directly behind Conan opening up as he begins to sing. Some will also be happy to see the back of the golden jewellery and accessories - no spoons on Conan's face!

Portugal's second rehearsal will take place on Thursday 9th May and they will be performing tenth in the first semi final on Tuesday 14th May.
