Israel | Tel Aviv Scraps Plans For Tent City

It looks like those fans who would wish to camp out in Tel Aviv ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest, will no longer be able to do so, as plans for the tent city have been scrapped.

Globes.co.il has reported that this will not be the case, as there was not a single bid placed for the tender. The proposition was placed two months ago, and since then, not a single bid has been put in place. It has therefore been decided that the idea would be dropped. With two months to go until the contest, the city, and the accommodation for fans has become a bit of a premium. Fans who have opted for this will now be disappointed.

The initial plan was to have the 'tent city' built at the Ganei Yehoshua Park. However, this idea failed to receive the assistance of Israel nature, and National Parks protection Authority. There would have been three tiers of space that would have held basic tents, glamping tents, and trailers. None of this will now happen.

It was also proposed that there was a lack of space, and time to accommodate all that was needed. The city of Tel Aviv responded to Globes indicating that:

"The Tel Aviv- Jaffa municipality is working to create an extraordinary experience for the tourists who will arrive in the city for the Eurovision. Unfortunately, the tent city initiative did not succeed because of the lack of response to the tender. We are working on other solutions which will make it easier for tourists to enjoy the activities and events the city will be offering".

This has been followed by news that in a recent survey by the BBC, that Tel Aviv is one of the top ten most expensive cities in the world. The lack of a 'tent city' may now hinder those who had planned this as a cheaper way to stay in the city.
