Belgium | Eliot releases 'Wake Up' with Official Music Video

Eliot and the team at RTBF Eurovision teased their 2019 Eurovision Song Contest entry 'Wake Up' earlier this week with a short snippet on their official Instagram page however this morning the song was played for the first time on Belgian radio and shortly after the official music video dropped on the Eurovision YouTube channel. Check Eliot's song out below.

On January 14th 2019, broadcaster RTBF revealed that young singer-songwriter Eliot Vassamillet will be representing Belgium in Tel Aviv at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest with a song composed by Pierre Dumoulin who also wrote Belgium's 2017 song - 'City Lights' - which was performed by Blanche and placed 4th in the final with 364 points. In the weeks leading up to the song release, it was also revealed that Eliot's song would have similarities to 'City Lights'. Having listened to it we can definitely see what they meant! Check out the official music video for his song 'Wake Up' here:

The song builds as it goes along, starting very much as a ballad without much backing before percussion and electric beats are added to the background. The ballad has a memorable and anthemic feel - something that usually suggests it will do well on the Eurovision stage. The backing instrumental continues to pick up its pace as the song goes along, with each chorus also getting bigger.

Immediate reactions on social media were varied to positive with many really loving the song and Eliot even won comparisons to global stars Troye Sivan and Lauv.

Eliot caught songwriter Pierre's eye with his dark and emotive performances on season 7 of 'The Voice Belgique', which has also been used by RTBF to select their entrants for 2015 (Loïc Nottet) and 2017 (Blanche) to much success. Eliot advanced through the auditions and battle rounds making it to the live shows where he was unfortunately eliminated. However, that doesn't seem to have phased Eliot as he prepares for the Eurovision stage in May.
