Georgia | Eurovision Entry To Be Performed In Georgian

The Georgian national broadcaster, GPB, has confirmed that for the 2nd year in a row, that the song representing the Caucasus state will be sung in its native tongue Georgian. This is after the general director of the broadcaster, Tinatin Berdzenishvili, stated that the decision was due to 'the contest trying to have as many songs as possible in their native language'.

The country is using the format, Georgian Idol, to choose its representative for Tel Aviv this May and the final will be held on the 2nd March. The contestants that are still in the running are:

  • Giorgi Nakashidze

  • Giorgi Pruidze

  • Liza Kalandadze

  • Nini Tsnobiladze

  • Oto Nemsadze

The last time Georgia qualified for the final was back in 2016, in which Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz came 20th place. Last year the country internally selected the ethno-jazz band Iraio with the song 'For You' and it came last in its respective semi final.

Could Georgia earn their place in the final again this year? Is singing in Georgian a wise move for the country? Who do you think will be their representative this year? Tell us what you think in the comments below and be sure to follow us on social media.
