Iceland | Söngvakeppnin 2019 Semi Final 2 Results



Last week Iceland kicked off their national final in style that saw Hera Bjork, and Hatari both directly qualify for the final. This week another five artists have taken to the stage to find the final two singers to go directly Söngvakeppnin 2019 final. The qualifiers were Friðrik Ómar with the song "Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað?" and Tara Mobee with the song "Betri án þín".


Tonight saw the following five artists, and songs compete for their chance to represent Iceland in Tel Aviv:


1) Elli Grill, Skaði, Glymur - "Jeijó, keyrum alla leið"

2) Ívar Daníels - "Þú bætir mig"

3) Heiðrún Anna Björnsdóttir - "Helgi"

4) Tara Mobee - "Betri án þín"

5) Friðrik Ómar - "Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað?"


A further two songs have gone through to the final that will take place in the RÚV's studio's in Reykjavik. It will be a couple of weeks before the final will take place which will be on the 2nd March 2019. In that time the broadcaster has the right to introduce a wildcard which will take the competing songs up to five.


The five songs in the final are:


Hatari"Hatrið mun sigra"

Hera Björk"Eitt andartak"

Tara Mobee - "Betri án þín"

Friðrik Ómar - "Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað?"



A wildcard entry was also chosen which means the fifth song to go to the final will be:


Kristina Skoubo Bærendsen"Ég á mig sjálf" (From Semi Final one)


The final will then see songs eliminated, that will see three compete in the super final. The broadcaster this year has changed the rules to allow all votes in the first part of the final show to be added to those scored in the super final.


This year will mark Söngvakeppnin's fourteenth year of selecting Iceland's entry. In previous years the country has struggled to qualify. Their last gand final appearance was in 2014 when "Pollapönk" were to sing "No Prejudice".


Iceland have take Eurovision to their hearts, and it is one of the most watched programmes of the year. In fact over 90% of the population tend to watch the show live, which is more than any other country.
