Netherlands | Get to know more about Duncan Laurence

On January 21st 2019 Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS announced they had internally selected Duncan Laurence as their representative for Eurovision 2019. Unexpectedly a rather unknown artist has been selected to represent the country for the first time since 2013, when already well-known Anouk finished 9th with her song 'Birds', in Malmö.

Duncan De Moor, also known as Duncan Laurence was born on April 11th 1994, meaning he is 24 years old. He grew up in the town of Spijkernisse, The Netherlands. Duncan studied at The Rock Academy in Tilburg, The Netherlands where he graduated from in 2017. Since then he has been playing in bands, performing and writing songs where he often travels to London and Stockholm for.

Duncan may be familiar to fans of 'The Voice Of Holland'. This is actually quite logical, as Duncan participated in the 2014 edition of The Voice Of Holland, the same season as OG3NE. He was coached by Eurovision 2014’s runner-up Ilse De Lange, who introduced the selection committee to Duncan as well. Sadly he was eliminated in the live shows, however, this did mark the beginning of his musical career.

Over the last few weeks, a lot of rumours have been reported regarding Duncan’s Eurovision song. So far several songs and song titles have leaked which could possibly be his song for Tel Aviv. The first leaked song title was 'Closer To The Heart'. The second song was named 'I Miss You', which was quite a mysterious ballad, although this was denied some days later by his management and the third song was named 'Arcade'. This was a more pop-rap song with a heavy beat on it. About this song nothing has been denied nor confirmed yet, however, this song is considered the most likely because the noted producer is the same as the AVROTOS confirmed Eurovision entry producer. Furthermore, earlier the selected song was said to be a dance song, this song has definitely got a dance vibe. the final song reveal will take place on Thursday March 7th. Check out the rumoured 'I Miss You' below:
