Czechia | Lake Malawi will represent Czech Republic at Eurovision 2019


Earlier this month, the eight competing songs in the Czech national final were released online following the same format as last years Czech national selection. The online national final see's an international jury of Eurovision stars vote for their favourites along with a free televote via the official Eurovision app. After a week-long results reveal we now have the winner and the act representing the Czech Republic at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest is ... Lake Malawi.


Throughout the week, ten international jurors (all of whom have had their own Eurovision stories over the past few years) have awarded their twelve points to their favourite song among the entries. Today in a press conference streamed live on social media, the rest of the juror points were released and added to the scores from the public vote meaning that we have a winner!


Lake Malawi was announced as the winner of the national selection with their song 'Friend of a Friend' and will go on to represent the Czech Republic at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 14th, 16th & 18th. Check out the winning song here:


Lake Malawi is a Czech indie pop band from Třinec formed in 2013. The band consists of lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Albert Černý, bassist and keyboardist Jeroným Šubrt, and drummer Antonín Hrabal.


The ten jurors were; Rasmussen (Denmark 2018), Cesar Sampson (Austria 2018), ZIBBZ (Switzerland 2018), Ira Losco (Malta 2002/2016), Elina Nechayeva (Estonia 2018), AWS (Hungary 2018), Alma (France 2017), Ari Olafsson (Iceland 2018), JOWST (Norway 2017) and Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Ireland 2018). Their twelve points mostly were split between Lake Malawi's 'Friend of a Friend' and Barbora Mochowa's 'True Colours' whereas the televote winner was ##.
