Austria | Will it be a Styrian artist for Austria?

January 28, 2019

Us Eurovision fans are often like detectives, always looking for clues to who will represent which country. And today Austria decided to drop one more clue. According to the website "Eurovision Austria", the Austrian artist who will sing for the country in Tel Aviv will hail from the state, or to be exact Bundesland, of Styria. The artist will also be female, and will be announced on the 29th of January on the popular 'Ö3 Alarm Clock Show'.

Styria has two previous notable connections to Eurovision. Conchita Wurst, winner of Eurovision 2014, studied Fashion in the Styrian capital Graz. The more notable connection is that of the 2003 Austrian participant Alf Poier. He hailed from Styria, and also famously sung that years Austrian entry: 'Weil Der Mensch Zählt' in the Styrian Dialect of German. Perhaps the 2019 Austrian representative will treat us to this dialect for a second time?

While we wait to find out the identity of the next Austrian Eurovision artist, why not watch Andy's reaction to the infamous 2003 Austrian entry?
