Iceland | Söngvakeppnin 2019 Lineup Announced

The lineup for Iceland's 2019 Eurovision national selection show 'Söngvakeppnin' has been announced by Icelandic broadcaster RÚV tonight in a press conference. Find out who will be hoping to change Iceland's recent fortune in the competition and get them back to the Eurovision final below.

The ten competing artists and their songs are:

  • Daniel Óliver - "Samt ekki" ("Licky Licky")

  • Elli Grill, Skaði, Glymur - "Jeijó, keyrum alla leið"

  • Friðrik Ómar - "Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað?" ("What If I Can't Have Love?")

  • Hatari - "Hatrið mun sigra"

  • Heiðrun Anna Björnsdóttir - "Helgi" ("Sunday Boy")

  • Hera Björk - "Eitt andartak" ("Moving On")

  • Ívar Daniels - "þu bætir mig" ("Make Me Whole")

  • Kristina Skoubo Bærendsen - "Ég á mig sjálf" ("Mama Said")

  • Tara Mobee - "Betri án þin" ("Fighting For Love")

  • þórdis Imsland - "Nú og hér" ("What Are You Waiting For?")

The competition will run similarly to recent years with a format of two semi finals followed by a final two weeks later. The first semi final is on Saturday 9th February with semi final two a week later on Saturday 16th February. The contest draws to a close two weeks later on Saturday 2nd March with the Söngvakeppnin final where the winner and Iceland's 2019 Eurovision participant will be chosen.

In the lineup there are some familiar faces, Hera Bjork (Iceland 2010) and Friðrik Ómar of Euroband (Iceland 2008) are both back for another go with their new songs. Let us know if either are your favourites!

Despite never missing a final between 2008 and 2014, Iceland have not managed to qualify for the final in their past four attempts. In 2018, Ari Ólafsson performed his sentimental ballad 'Our Choice' for Eurovision viewers but sadly placed last in semi final one with only 15 points. Will 2019 be the year that changes Iceland's fortune? We caught up with Ari at London Eurovision Party last year so check out the interview here:
