France | Over 2.14 million viewers for Destination Eurovision Semi One

Over 2.14 million viewers tuned into France 2 to watch the first Semi-Final of Destination Eurovision 2019, meaning the show was watched by 11.8% of the public on Saturday Night. While this is indeed down 350,000 viewers on the launch show of last years Destination Eurovision, it's still a massive success for a National Selection. It's also worth noting that the Grand Final of Eurovision 2013 only managed 2.7 million viewers in France.

Since it's inception in 2018, Destination Eurovision has only added to the early 50s and 60s powerhouse of ESC that is France's recent streak of good results in Eurovision, a country that before 2016 had a run of bad results (such as a first ever last place in 2014). It seems France are back on track for the Glory Days!

The French public will be hoping that the winning participant of this national selection will continue this recent spell of good luck, something that seems likely considering the YouTube Viewing figures (3 Million at the time of writing!) and all round popularity in both the Eurofans circle and French viewing public of last nights winner and bookies favourite Bilal Hassani who managed to win both the Public and Jury vote.

Four acts qualified in last nights semi final and will compete in the final on the 26th of January:

Bilal Hassani: Roi

Aysat: Comme Une Grande

Chimène Badi: Là-haut

Silvàn Areg: Le Petit Nicolas

Semi Final 2 will take place on the 19th of January 2019 with 9 more acts hoping for a place in the final and a chance to represent France in Tel Aviv in May.

Why not get into a French party mood with Andy and watch his reaction to the popular banger that France sent to Oslo in 2010?
