Malta | Live Show One - Who Made It Through?
It's been a long time coming but we've finally reached the live shows of Malta's Eurovision 2019 selection preshow - 'X Factor Malta'! Over the past week you have been voting for your favourite amongst the top three and you've named Michela Pace, Xtreme, Kelsey Bellante, 4th Line and Petra were your top five! It was confirmed on the official twitter page that two would be leaving tonight.

The top twelve each picked a song fitting the theme 'This Is Me' in a bid to advance to next weeks live show. The song choices, in performance order, were:
4th Line - "Survivor" by Destiny's Child
Luke Chappell - "Overthinking" (Original Song)
Nicole Frendo - "Too Good At Goodbyes" by Sam Smith
Franklin - "Jealous" by Labrinth
Xtreme - "Side to Side" by Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj / "Woman Like Me" by Little Mix ft. Nicki Minaj
Michela Pace - "Lost On You" by LP
Norbert Bondin - "Say Something" by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera
Kayati - "Nobody's Perfect" by Jessie J
Ben Purplle - "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn
Owen Leuellen - "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore
Petra - 'What's Up' by 4 Non Blondes
Kelsey Bellante - "Chained to the Rhythm" by Katy Perry
The standard for the first live show was incredibly high - make sure to check out all the performances in the links above.
The judges were incredibly impressed with 4th Line, Nicole Frendo, Xtreme and Petra. Both the judges and crowd went absolutely wild for perhaps performance of the night - Owen Leuellen. Luke Chappell was also praised for his original song and Ben Purplle was told he had potential to be an international rockstar! However the judges - particularly difficult to impress judge Alexandra Alden - were hard on some of the contestants - questioning whether Franklin was able to offer anything other than ballads, that Norbert Bondin needed to work on his storytelling and emotional approach to his singing, whilst Kayati were told it just didn't work on stage. Controversially, favourite to win Michela Pace also faced criticism, saying it was not the best that she had been however the rest of the judges (and us) absolutely loved their performance. Kelsey Bellante closed the night with Katy Perry's bop 'Chained to the Rhythm' and gave an energy filled performance with some incredible choreography! Kelsey is the full package and the judges also had bags of praise for her.
At the end of the night, the act with the lowest votes was eliminated immediately whereas the second and third bottom then faced off against eachother in a sing-off. The judges get to vote to save one of the two.
The act polling lowest and immediately eliminated was... Kayati.
And the sing-off was between Xtreme and Franklin... For their save-me songs, girl group Xtreme took on 'Take Me Home' by Jess Glynne whilst Franklin performed 'Clown' by Emeli Sande. Franklin gave a good performance of the emotional ballad however Xtreme showed versatility, perfect harmonies and some incredible individual vocals too.
The judges then voted and in a vote 3-1, Franklin was sent home in 11th place - a decision we ultimately have to agree with.
Meaning the Top 10 are:
Kelsey Bellante, Michela Pace & Nicole Frendo from the Girls
Luke Chappell, Owen Leuellen & Norbert Bondin from the Boys
Ben Purplle & Petra from the Overs
and 4th Line & Xtreme from the Groups
