Romania | Dates and Locations for Selectia Nationala Confirmed

Last week it was reported that 126 songs had been submitted to Romania's National Selection process 'Selectia Nationala' - an increase of almost 70% on last years submissions! TVR have now revealed the dates for the shows - the two semi finals and then the grand final - and also where in Romania they'll be hosted. For Selectia Nationala 2018, contestants performed across Romania in the lead up to the grand final - showing just how beautiful the country is.

The dates and locations for the three shows are as follows:

  • Semi Final One: 20th January 2019 in the city of Arad.

  • Semi Final Two: 27th January 2019 in the city of Iasi.

  • Grand Final: 17th February 2019 in the capital city of Bucharest.

It does mean unfortunately that the iconic salt mine venue in Turda from 2018 will not be used again next year - however we can still hope for 2020!

Amongst the 126 songs that were submitted include submissions from Romania's Got Talent winner 16-year-old Laura Bretan, 2006 representative Mihai, popular artist Ligia and past contestants Xandra, Teodora Dinu, Johnny Badulescu and Sergiu Bolota. A teaser clip of Laura Bretan's pop-opera track 'Dear Father' has been released on YouTube and you can check it out here. She's currently the favourite to win the Romanian 2019 selection process, would you be happy with that?

This year - The Humans represented Romania at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest performing 'Goodbye'. Unfortunately Romania failed to qualify for the Eurovision final for the first time ever, placing 11th in Semi Final 2 with 107 points.
