Armenia | Srbuk to represent Armenia at Eurovision 2019

Following the initial announcement of an artist reveal on Wednesday, we've had two days packed to the brims with speculation and rumours over who will be selected to represent Armenia at Eurovision. Moving away from National Selection process 'Depi Evratesil', ARMTV have decided to internally select their Eurovision 2019 performer - and the outcome of their decision was confirmed this evening on TV show 'Lav yereko' with the selection of Srbuk who will be flying the Armenian flag in Tel Aviv next May with a song to be revealed at a later date!

Srbuk's real name is Srbuhi Sargsyan and the young singer first found fame by competing on The X Factor Armenia back in 2010/2011 - where she placed second in the final. She also auditioned for the eighth season of The Voice Ukraine earlier this year - gaining three turns in her blind audition (including Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala!) before finishing the competition in 4th. Over the years she has also performed on a number of Armenian TV shows and released lots of original music which usually take the form of ethno bangers - Sirusho watch out! Check out her new song - with a timing suspiciously close to 3 minutes - 'Half A Goddess'.

Earlier this year, Sevak Khanagyan won Depi Evratesil 2018 with his ethno-ballad 'Qami' and went on to represent Armenia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal. Unfortunately, despite storming to victory in the national final, 'Qami' did not receive enough support at the international song contest to qualify out of the semi final - placing 15th out of 19 countries with 79 points. This marked only the second time out of Armenia's twelve appearances that the country failed to reach the final. Undoubtedly, ARMTV are hoping this internal selection will help them to replicate the success from their 7 top 10s since their debut.

The TV channel have put out an open call for songs for Srbuk - with the chosen song likely to be revealed in March 2019.

Are you happy with ARMTV's choice for 2019? What type of song do you hope they will be bringing to the competition?
