Armenia | Who should represent Armenia at Eurovision 2019?

Yesterday it was announced that the Armenian Eurovision 2019 representative will be announced tomorrow at 22.20 local time (November 30th 2018) on TV show 'Lav yereko'. It wasn't long before the rumour mill got started and Armenian artists began to be speculated for the position ... but who will it be? We take a look at some of the rumoured performers and and also offer some other options of performers we'd be interested in seeing in Tel Aviv who could definitely get Armenia back to the final!

Srbuk:

The first name to be rumoured was Srbuk (real name Srbuhi Sargsyan). The young singer first found fame by competing on The X Factor Armenia back in 2010/2011 - where she placed second in the final. She also auditioned for the eighth season of The Voice Ukraine earlier this year - gaining three turns in her blind audition (including Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala!) before finishing the competition in 4th. Over the years she has also performed on a number of Armenian TV shows and released lots of original music which usually take the form of ethno bangers - Sirusho watch out! Check out her new song 'Half a Goddess' below which you may have noticed is only 3:12 in length ... could this be her Eurovision entry!?

Nemra: The Yerevan based alternative rock band Nemra placed second in Armenia's 2018 national final 'Depi Evratesil' behind winner Sevak Khanagyan - scoring 18 out of a possible 24 points in the final. Relisten to 'I'm A Liar' down below ... could you see them back with a similar foot tapper for Eurovision? Formed in 2012, Nemra have released over 30 songs and had the opportunity to perform across Armenia and other countries - performing at concerts, festivals and promotional events to gain traction!

Sona Rubenyan:

Born in 1993, singer Sona Rubenyan shot to fame after winning the fifth edition of Hay Superstar (the Armenian equivalent to Pop Idol) in 2011. Since then she has released plenty of original music and also had the honour of representing Armenia at the Eastern European 'New Wave' music festival - which has seen plenty of Eurovision stars perform over the years. You can listen to her 2015 solo ethno pop song 'Jamanakn e' below however it is also rumoured she may appear with duet partner Garik Papoyan - who has performed alongside Sona for a number of years. Eurofans may recognise Garik as being a songwriter on Aram MP3's 2014 Eurovision 4th placer 'Not Alone'. If they do team up - is this the type of song we could expect to see?

Syuzanna Melqonyan:

Also born in 1993, Syuzanna Melqonyan was a finalist on the fourth series of Hay Superstar and on the third series of The X Factor Armenia where she competed on 2011 singer Emmy's team. Eurofans may recognise Syuzanna from her appearance in Depi Evratesil 2017 where she reached the Top 4 before being eliminated in the Semi Finals. She has also won countless grand prix's at music festivals across Armenia and further afield. Check out her powerhouse performance of 'And I Am Telling You' in Depi Evratesil and enjoy that incredible voice which would be able to perform an incredible ballad on the Eurovision stage.

Gevorg Harutyunyan:

Appearing in Depi Evratesil in both 2017 and 2018, it is clear that Gevorg Harutyunyan wants to go to the Eurovision stage! His song in 2018 'Stand Up' - which also showed off how good of a dancer he is (he won Armenia's Strictly Come Dancing in 2014!) - reached the finals of Armenia's 2018 national selection before finishing in 7th. In September 2018, Gevorg represented Armenia at the famous 'New Wave' festival where he placed joint second. At the festival, Gevorg had the opportunity to perform in front of Eurovision royalty including Sergey Lazarev and Philipp Kirkorov - a good way to be noticed on the international stage! Lilit Hovhannisyan:

This one is more of a wish/suggestion than a rumour - however we would be really ecstatic if Lilit Hovhannisyan was to take to the Eurovision stage. Born in 1987, Lilit rose to fame in 2006 following her successful stint on Hay Superstar where she placed 4th in the finals. Since then in addition to winning countless awards for her voice and music, Lilit has ranged an eclectic range of original music - from some seriously good power ballads to ethno-music driven bangers. Listen to her song 'Requiem' below just to see how dynamic her voice can be ... if she was chosen then she would definitely keep us guessing on the type of the song until the song reveal!

Asmik Shiroyan:

Born in Yerevan back in 1993, her family emigrated whilst she was young to Ukraine where she grew up. In 2014, Asmik Shiroyan auditioned for The Voice of Ukraine - where she joined the team of Eurovision legend Ani Lorak (Ukraine 2008) before being eliminated in the third round. Fans may recognise her from her two appearances at Depi Evratesil in 2017 and 2018 - where she reached the top 12 before being eliminated sparking outrage. She came back this year and brought pop/dance banger 'You & I' which quickly became a fan favourite across the world. Despite many backing her for the win, Asmik placed 5th in the final. Will she return again for Eurovision 2019 and show the world what we've been missing? Relisten to her 2018 entry here.

Amaliya Margaryan:

Young singer Amaliya Margaryan impressed audiences when she appeared in Depi Evratesil 2017 before being eliminated in round three. She then returned again in 2018 where she placed 3rd in the final with her powerful ballad 'Waiting For The Sun'. If ARMTV decide to send a ballad to Tel Aviv then Amaliya could definitely be the right person to take that ballad to the next level.

Tamar Kaprelian:

After representing Armenia at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest as a member of Genealogy, American born to an Armenian family Tamar Kaprelian has shown that she is keen to return to the Eurovision stage as a solo artist. Since her career launched in 2008, Tamar has given us plenty of memorable original music (including the AMAZING 'New Day' which you can listen to down below) and has also set up the Nvak Foundation back in 2016 which is a foundation dedicated to fostering musical talent in young Armenian singers, songwriters and musicians. Tamar competed in Depi Evratesil 2018 with her song 'Poison (Ari Ari)' however failed to qualify out of the first semi final. She's been once before so could her expertise help her get Armenia back in the final?

Unfortunately, fan favourite Kamil Show has today ruled out that she will be competing for Armenia in 2019 with a statement posted on Instagram. Will one of the above Armenian singers be chosen to represent their country next year at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019? We'll find out tomorrow evening on Armenian TV at 19.20 CET - the first artist confirmation of the upcoming Eurovision season!
