Portugal | RTP receives over 200 Song Submissions

Portugal won Eurovision for the first time in 2017 - with Salvador Sobral's ballad 'Amar pelos dois' going on to being the highest scoring winner in history and following 2018 where RTP hosted the contest for the first time in capital city Lisbon it appears that interest is reaching new highs for the country as they have received over 200 public submissions for their National Selection show 'Festival da Canção'.

National Final 'Festival da Canção' typically see's most of its entries come from invited composers and performers however similarly to this year, broadcaster RTP have once again opened up the search to public submissions and are very pleased with the reaction and volume of submissions - which by the end of October had hit over 200!

The next step will be for a jury to select the compositions across both the public and invitational submissions that will be featured in next years national selection as well as the masterclass which will decide the final composer and RTP have promised that this step will be happening soon! In RTP's initial statement, they announced that the jury integrated 'personalities of recognized merit in the field of music, music and television production'.

In 2018 as the host nation, Portugal automatically qualified for the final where Claudia Pascoal and composer Isaura went on to place last (26th) with their song 'O Jardim'. With 2019 seeing a return to the semi finals, RTP will definitely be wanting to send a song that will see Portugal in the final for a third year in a row.
