Norway | Alexander Rybak releases 'Let The Music Guide You'
You know him from winning Eurovision 2009 for Norway with his legendary track 'Fairytale' and then his return in 2018 with 'That's How You Write A Song' and now Alexander Rybak is releasing more original music. Steering down a different path to his Eurovision hits, 'Let The Music Guide You' is a heartfelt ballad about seeking solace in music during hard times - something that many Eurofans can relate to! The song also features joik influences, a traditional Nordic/Sami form of music.

The music video - which you can check out below - features Rybak performing the song in an intimate setting on a small stage, accompanied by a choir of young children. The emotion that pours out throughout the song can be seen clearly on Rybak's face. Meanwhile, the lyrics focus on upsetting times and experiences that most people can relate to; childhood bullying, loneliness and grief.
Keeping to the theme of the Nordic traditional style, it was also reported that Swedish singer Jon Henrik Fjällgren is set to return to Melodifestivalen 2019. Jon Henrik is best known for popularising the traditional tones of joik music and it is likely that if he does compete again next year that his song will feature joik.
Check out the lyrics to the new song:
Alexander Rybak - Let The Music Guide You
There was a little boy standing with his little boy tears
and a broken heart.
The other kids said: "You don't belong with us.
Just stay away."
He was crying all day long.
His whole world felt so wrong.
When somewhere from the mountain
he heard a friendly song.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Lift your heart. Rise above.
And let the music guide you.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Spread your wings. Shine your light.
And let the music guide you.
The old man stood by the lonely tree
one rainy day.
The same place where they together used to
laugh and play.
Now with nobody else around
there was no hope to be found.
When suddenly tree would whisper
a familiar sound.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Lift your heart. Rise above.
And let the music guide you.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Spread your wings. Shine your light.
And let the music guide you.
(joik)
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Lift your heart. Rise above.
And let the music guide you.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Spread your wings. Shine your light.
And let the music guide you.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Lift your heart. Rise above.
And let the music guide you.
Ey-oh-loa, ey-oh-loa
Spread your wings. Shine your light.
And let the music guide you.
