November 12, 2018

This year a record breaking 20 countries will be taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Minsk, Belarus on the 25th November 2018. With around two weeks to go until the competition, Eurovoxx will introduce you to each artist, and give a little insight to the country they will be representing.  Today's installment comes from Albania who will be represented by Efi Gjiaka.

Who Is Efi Gjika?

Efi is one of the youngest singers in this years competition.  She was born in Albania on the 29th September 2008, and is ten years old.  Despite, being so young, the talented singer has made many appearances on both stage and television.   Prior to being chosen she has also sung in public on many occasions, and is a very confident performer.  Efi is also a dancer too.  So far, her most notable achievement has been to win "Junior Fest 2018", and become Albania's next Junior Eurovision representative. Since it's release in September, her video has amassed over 90,000 views on YouTube. She won it with her song, "Barbie", check it out below:

How Was Efi Chosen?

This year the broadcaster for Albania, RTSH had opted to hold a national final to chose its entry.  On the 23rd September 2018, 'Junior Fest 2018' was held to find the next countries representative.  It was held in the  Amphitheater of the Lake Park in Tirana.  Sixteen songs competed, but it was the talents of Efi Gjika that shone through, with her winning the right to represent Albania. The judges picked her, over fifteen others.  Of being chosen the singer has said, "when the jury of Junior Fest announced "Barbie", it made my head spin around with responsibility and emotions".

Albania At The Junior Eurovision

This year will mark the fifth year that Albania have participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.  They first took part back in 2012 when Igzidora Gjeta sang, "Kam një këngë vetëm për ju".  The song came 12th scoring 35 points.  It would be three years until the country would come back when, Mishela Rapo's song, "Dambaje" gave the country its best ever result of 5th place.  Their two previous entries have resulted in their worst result having come 13th.  Could Efi get the country its first top 3 finish, or even win?

All the team at Eurovoxx would like to wish this young, talented singer a "Paç fat"!!!! in Minsk.

Do you like the song?  Do you think it could win?  Please tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
