Germany | Six Artists For Selection Revealed


This morning the six names who will compete in their forthcoming selection "Unser Lied für Israel" have been revealed, all of whom will be looking to follow in the steps of Michael Schulte.


Although the show will not take place until February, NDR this morning have announced the six acts that will taking to the stage for the right to represent Germany, the six acts were selected out of a grand total of 965 which initially applied, the six were selected across a 100 strong international Eurovision fan panel, which represented and a 20 strong jury panel of music experts, get to know he six competing acts below.


The first artist is Aly Ryan. Aly is a German born musician who moved to Los Angeles at the young age of 16 to persure her music, on October 19th 2017, the indie-pop artist released her debut single "No Parachute" which landed inside the Top 10 of the German charts, which you can listen to yourself below. She has since released a total of six more singles all available on Spotify in the year 2018.


The next artist is BB Thomaz who rose to fame in Germany after competing on "The Voice Germany" and making it all the way through to the final and placing 4th, like Aly she had announced he was one of the final twenty acts in the German Eurovision workshop a few weeks ago. Her audition of "Bang Bang" resulted in all four judges turning their chairs for her, she is a self taught piano and guitar player and has also worked with Kyle K2 Stewart on her single "Don't Go Missing" a producer who has worked with the likes of Fifth Harmony and Tamar Braxton respectively.

The next artist is Linus Bruhn is also a previous The Voice contestant, having competed on the show back in 2015, he has been uploading covers of songs to his YouTube since which stands are 115k subscribers and over three million views. Before The Voice he played "Little Tarzan" in the Hamburg based musical for three years, listen to his most recent uploaded song, which his own original track "Pink Glasses" below.


The fourth artist in contention for Germany is Gregor Hägele, who won over the hearts of Germany in 2017 after he advanced all the way to the semi finals of "The Voice Germany" he states his love in music is German and English pop songs, could we see a bi-lingual entry in the selection then?

The fifth artist is Lilly Among Clouds a jack of all tracks a lyricist, composer and singer and performs in the English language, she released her first EP all the way back in 2015 and her first full album titled "Perspective" was released in 2017, outside of Germany she has performed at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas and the Australian Music Week in Sydney. The final artist in contention for Germany is Makeda, Makeda was in the 32 strong shortlist to compete in the selection in 2017 but failed to make it to the final five show. Despite living and working in Germany, her roots actually come from the island of Trinidad, she has traveled China as a cultural German ambassador with her band "Steal A Taxi" and more recently had Christina Aguilera see and comment on her song "Fighter" which you can see below. She also had a leading role in the musical "The Bodyguard" in Cologne and other cities across Germany.

The six artists are currently taking place in a week long songwriting camp with 24 writers, composers and producers, German and internationally mixed, the song writing camp is purely being used to work for the Eurosivion Song Contest and find which songs fit which act best and can be staged according for the show and Eurovision in Tel Aviv.
