Estonia | 216 Songs Were Submitted For Eesti Laul 2019

Yesterday, Eurovoxx reported details of the up and coming Estonian national final, Eesti Laul, and confirmed that tickets for the shows would go on sale this morning. Now, the national broadcaster has confirmed that they have received 216 songs for their national final.
It was revealed by Tomi Rahula yesterday evening, on ETV that 216 songs had been submitted. The figure is down on those received by the channel last year, and bucks the trend from other national finals such as Sweden's Melodifestivalen, that have also seen a fall in the number of songs submitted. However, this news has not come as a surprise, as changes were made to the song submission process, that has seen the broadcaster ERR impose a fee on submitted entries.
Tomi also confirmed that the city of Tartu would host the semi- finals of Eesti Laul 2019, with the final still being held in Tallinn. This is the first time that the semi's have been broadcast from outside the nations capital.
Of the songs submitted, 108 (exactly half) are in Estonian, other languages include English, Russia, Spanish and even one in German. This figure will be narrowed down to 24 which will be officially announced on November 15th 2018.
The two semi finals will take place on January 31st 2019, and February 2nd 2019, whilst the grand final will be held on February 16th 2019.
This year, opera singer Elina Nechayeva was chosen to represent Estonia with 'La Forza' - successfully getting Estonia back in to the final after two years of not qualifying - eventually placing 8th with 245 points.
