Malta | X Factor Malta Auditions Come To A Close

On Sunday night we saw the auditions of X Factor Malta come to a close, but not before we saw some more amazing talent from the little island, and of course more familiar faces!

One of the more recognised acts of the audition episode today was Janice Mangion, who back in 2017 placed 2nd in Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Kewkba" in her audition she sang Beyoncè's "Listen" but the judges had the hard time connecting to Janice during the performance, leading judge Alexandra Alden to say no, however the other three judges gave her a chance and she advanced on to bootcamp.

Other notable MESC alumni include Matthew Anthony Caruana, who placed 7th in Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with "Call 2morrow" who advanced with 4 yeses after taking on current Eurovision Song Contest winning song "Toy" in a acoustic arrangement on the guitar, check out his audition below. We also saw 2017 MESC alumni Jade Vella and Shauna Vassallo also auditioned and advance forwards in the competition. From MESC 2013, pink-haired Janice Debattista also progressed after a passionate performance that made judge Ira Losco cry. Closing out the televised auditions was not an MESC competitor, but more so a family member of an ex Eurovision acts. Anna Faniello, mother of Eurovision acts Fabrizio and Claudia Faniello entered this years competition, and after a very classy and elegant song in Maltese, all the judges agreed in sending her through to the next round.

In addition to the MESC alumni, we also saw more talented singers making it through. Student Gail Attard blew the judges away with her rendition of Labrinth's "Jealous" whilst Nicole Borg told the judges she was singing as if it was the last performance of her life and you could tell as she also sailed through to Bootcamp. Quirky Denise Mercieca put her own cool spin on Khalid's "Location" to secure her place in Bootcamp and will be joined by powerhouse Sarah Bonnici, duo WER1 and 15-year-old Miguel Bonello. Eccentric Aleandro Pace Tahir and Michela Galea showed that she has the voice, the look and the dance moves to do well on The X Factor.

YouTube uploaded hidden footage also introduced us to Jake Camilleri, Clayton Portelli, Ryan Grech, Nazio Rotin, Shannon McEvoy, David Cauchi, Francesca Scerri, Martha Micallef Attard, Jake Bartolo and Nicole Falzon. who we will be seeing once again in Bootcamp. Mikhail Attard, Raquel Seguna and Charlene Muscat also gave incredible performances to secure their slot in the next stage.

Now with all the auditions complete, we can now see that 82 have made it through to Bootcamp and are still in the running of becoming the first X Factor Malta winner and representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, the 82 consist of 18 boys, 35 girls, 24 overs and alarmingly only 5 groups, will we see some groups being made up from bootcamp? It has happened in spin-offs in other countries, some of which have gone on to do amazingly, most notably, One Direction, Little Mix and Fifth Harmony.
