Set the Date! Eurovision Asia Confirmed for December 7th 2019
Not long ago, the EBU confirmed that Eurovision Asia - which was announced last year - was going to be put on an indefinite hiatus following geo-political difficulties and obstructions arranging the event. In a shocking turn of events, the inaugural Eurovision Asia Song Contest has been confirmed as taking place in an eight day event between November 30th and culminating with the Grand Final on December 7th 2019.

In a press release on 9 News Gold Coast this morning, the details for the inaugural Eurovision Asia Song Contest were revealed. The contest is to be held in the city of the Gold Coast, Australia - which will also be hosting the inaugural Australian Eurovision National Final 'Eurovision: Australia Decides' on February 9th 2019 - for the week spanning Friday November 30th until Saturday December 7th 2019. The eight day event is promising high profile artists from sixteen countries across the Asia Pacific region who will be competing in song contest following the same format of Eurovision - with the final result being determined by 50% Jury and 50% Televote from each of the countries.
Mayor of the Gold Coast - Tom Tate - spoke to the news channel saying, "Eurovision Asia is huge. It's over 200 million viewers." The belief is that hosting such an event will bring positive attention to the coastal city and increase the output of leisure and tourism industries for the city and the wider region. Host Australia debuted at Eurovision following a special invitation from the EBU in 2015 and have attended since - with their best performance coming in 2016 where Dami Im and her song 'Sound of Silence' finished in 2nd place.
Whilst there hasn't been a formal announcement on which 16 countries will be participating, 9 News did release information that suggested some of the countries negotiating participation included China, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. The full line up will be announced in May 2019 but with such a diverse continent of culture and music it promises to be a great show and promotion of diversity and inclusion.
We look forward to seeing how the event will materialise and what will come next! Make sure to keep up to date with all Eurovision, Junior Eurovision and Eurovision Asia news and video content by following us on our social media- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube!
