Ireland | Brendan Murray Narrowly Avoids X Factor Exit

October 28, 2018

He overcome his audition, the six chair challenge and Judges' Houses to make it to the final 16, but Irish Eurovision act Brendan Murray's X Factor journey nearly came to an end tonight.

Brendan, 21 represented Ireland in Eurovision 2017 with the song "Dying to Try" failing to qualify from the second semi final that year, for the past year he had been relatively quiet before coming back onto our screens on the X Factor, where he impressed the judges to make it all the way down to last sixteen acts and one of the top four boys in the show, however he found himself in the bottom two in the second week of the live shows, and was saved on the previously public vote after the judges reached deadlock on who to send home between Brendan and Liverpool-based choir act LMA Choir.

The weeks theme was "Guilty Pleasures" where Brendan chose to take on iconic Cher single "Believe" where he received mixed feedback from the judges, with judge Ayda Field saying she felt "Kinda depressed" after his performance. In the sing-off he took on Radiohead's "High And Dry" but that still wasn't enough to sway a majority vote in his favour to stay in the competition, once it reached deadlock however, it was revealed he had received more public votes than LMA Choir this week and therefore progressed into week three of the live shows.

Can Brendan pick himself back up after this near miss? What did you think of his song choice this week? Watch his performance below and let us know!
