Sweden | Melodifestivalen 2019 Hosts Announced


Today, the hosts of Melodifestivalen, Sweden's selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest were revealed in a press conference.


The hosts for this year forthcoming competition are: Marika Carlsson, Eric Saade, Kodjo Akolor, Sarah Dawn Finer. All four will be present during all six shows.


Sarah Dawn Finer is the presenter with previous presenting experience for the contest, having hosted the show back in 2012 and one show in 2016, as well having competed in the competition back in 2009 with the song "Moving On". Although this is Eric Saade's first time hosting the show, he has competed in Melodifestivalen three times, in 2010, 2015 and most notably 2011, where he won with his song "Popular" which went on to get 3rd place for Sweden in the Eurovision Grand Final in Dusseldorf, he was also a green room host in 2013 when Malmö hosted Eurovision.


Marika is a recognised radio host and comic within Sweden, originally born in Ethiopia and adopted by a Swedish when two has grown up in the Scandinavian nation, she has recently finished the Diggiloot tour across Sweden in the summer, she openly admits she that during the tour she got the crowd to chant "Marika for Mello" in hopes she would be given a spot to compete, but instead will be hosting the staple show instead. Kodjo Akolor, like Marika is a award winning comedian and radio programme director, he has featured in a few television programmes over the last decade and some within SVT also.


It is unsure how the four will work together during the six weeks the show will run, Melodifestivalen 2019 starts on February 2nd and finishes on March 9th, the announcement of the 28 participating acts and entries has not been announced yet, and normally happens in the month of November.
