Germany | Meet the 2019 Eurovision Workshop Artists (1-3)

German broadcaster NDR confirmed earlier this year that their plan for Eurovision 2019 would follow the same process of this years selection which ultimately resulted in Michael Schulte representing Germany in Lisbon with the emotional 'You Let Me Walk Alone' which found success - finishing 4th place with 340 points.

Last week, fifteen singers and performers traveled to Cologne to attend a five day Eurovision workshop. Representatives from NDR - Thomas Schrieber and Christoph Pelander - explained that of these fifteen, four did not want to be announced publicly. However the other eleven have been revealed and this week Eurovoxx is going to be taking a look at the singers in the running to represent Germany next year at Eurovision. It is expected for eight to ten to make up that National Final early next year.

The first instalment see's us take a look at the first three performers - Daniel Schuhmacher, Nina Kutschera and Thilo Berndt.

Daniel Schuhmacher was born on April 19th 1987 in the small town of Pfullendorf. The openly gay performer rose to fame in 2009 after winning the sixth season of 'Deutschland sucht den Superstar' which is the German equivalent to Pop Idol. His debut single 'Anything But Love' became a hit across Germany, Austria and Switzerland with his first album being certified gold in the former two. Whilst his first music was very classic ballad orientated - you can tell from his later music that he is heavily influenced by electro beats and a more urban, edgy styling. Rebranded as DSFZKE, last year he released his 'Don't Run Away' EP and you can watch the music video for track 'S#!T' below. With his unique sound we are definitely excited to see what type of song we can expect to see from Daniel.

Nina Kutschera was born on August 10th 1981 in the city of Koblenz. She first gained attention after auditioning for the first season of 'The Voice of Germany' where her soulful rendition of Adele's 'Set Fire To The Rain' won her three turns and she eventually ended up on team Nena. Nina progressed to the first live show where despite a very confident performance of 'Free Your Mind' by En Vogue she was not selected to continue in the competition. Following her appearance on the show she released her debut single 'Run (Say Whatcha Want)' which is a sassy and punchy pop song with an epic beat. More recently, Nina has set up a YouTube Vlog where she regularly posts about her life and beauty topics. You can check out her debut single below - and we wonder whether or not this will follow the same style as her Eurovision recordings.

Thilo Berndt was born on October 9th 1998 in the city of Bochum. Thilo started singing lessons aged eight and then joined a Disney Musical of Beauty and the Beast in Oberhausen. He has competed in a number of musical contests - including being second place in the Austrian casting show of 'Kiddy Contest' and a finalist in the Under 18s category of the UK Songwriting Contest in 2014. He has a YouTube channel where he posts videos of himself performing covers of songs including 'Love Yourself' by Justin Bieber, 'Shape Of You' by Ed Sheeran and most recently 'Take Me To The King' by Tamela Mann. He's also an established songwriter, with his channel featuring a number of original songs which really show off his soulful voice typically accompanied by either his guitar or keyboard. Check out his performance of his original song 'Warm Up' below.

Make sure to check out the first instalment and then stay tuned for the rest of the week as we take a look at the other German artists in contention to be their 2019 representative.
