Malta | Audition Show One: Who Made It Through?

Tonight the start of X Factor Malta, and in turn the start to find Malta's next Eurovision act began, as the first episode of X Factor Malta aired on TVM.

In a bold new direction for the small nation to take, the winner of X Factor Malta will not only win the inaugural series, but be the act who will go on to represent Malta in Tel Aviv at Eurovision 2019, it also features Eurovision 2002 runner up Ira Losco on the judging panel. In tonights debut show, we saw eight acts advance onto the next stage - bootcamp, several of which who have tried to represent Malta in the past with their own selection show - Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the acts who advanced are:

  • AIDAN - Finished 4th place in MESC 2018 with his track 'Dai Laga'. Check out his audition below.

  • Anna Azzopardi - MESC Semi Finalist in 2011 ('Unfaithful') and 2012 ('Still Waiting').

  • Claudio Zammit

  • Danica Muscat - MESC Semi Finalist in 2015 ('Close Your Eyes') and 16th place in 2018 ('One Step At A Time').

  • Karin Duff

  • Mark Anthony Bartolo - No previous MESC appearance but he did audition for San Marino's 1in360 last year.

  • Michela Pace - Was part of MESC 2016 60-song shortlist with 'Cruise Control'.

  • Norbert Bondin - No previous MESC appearance but auditioned for UK show 'All Together Now' and really impressed the panel.

How far can these eight go on in the competition, we know that this coming Thursday and Friday the dreading and often cited "brutal" six chair challenge will take place where the judges are assigned their categories for the rest of the series and cut the remaining acts in their groups down to just six, and have the power to artist a chair, which is a spot into the final six of the category, but also have the power to remove and eliminate them later for someone else. Other MESC artists who have confirmed they are competing in X Factor Malta but have not featured yet include, Janice Mangion, Miriana Conte and Mikhali from the duo "Dwett".
