Portuguese broadcaster RTP have today announced that 13-year old Rita Laranjeira will represent Portugal at the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The announcement was made on the television programme Agora Nós by host Carla Bugalho. Out of a total of 10 participants, Rita was chosen as Portugal's representative by a jury.
Carla Bugalho also revealed that Rita will be heading to the recording studio in the coming days to work on her song, and for the first time in Portugal's Junior Eurovision history, an official music video will be released. The broadcaster will be holding a submission process for potential songs that Rita will sing in Belarus, which closes on September 28th. The broadcaster has stated that they would like the songs to cover themes of diversity and empathy, whilst maintaining modernity.
