Sweden 2019 | Melodifestivalen Cities And Dates Announced

It's one of Swedens' biggest shows in the broadcaster calendar and today SVT announced released the dates and the cities Melodifestivalen will be hosted in for 2019.

The competition, as in recent years will commence over the first weekend in February with the final taking place in the second weekend of March, the cities and dates for the 2019 edition are:

February 2nd - Gothenburg

February 9th - Malmö

February 16th - Leksand

February 23rd - Lidköping

March 2nd - Nyköping

March 9th - Stockholm

The first show will be the semi finals portion of the competitions, where each week seven acts will compete for two direct spots to the final and two spots to enter "Andra Chansen" (Second Chance) after the four semi finals, the eight qualifiers to Andra Chansen will be paired against another song and go head to head live a week before the final, the winner from each head-to-head or duel as SVT advertise it going on to compete with the eight direct qualifiers in the final in Friends Arena. Furthermore it was announced that tickets for the competition for all six shows will be going on sale on October 31st at 9am CET.

The winner of Melodifestivalen wins the right/invitation to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden, last year the honour went to 20 year-old Benjamin Ingrosso with his song "Dance You Off" after winning the jury and public vote, once in Lisbon he qualified into the final and the contest looked like it may be returning to Sweden after Benjamin placed second in the jury voting, but however hopes of a third Swedish victory in six years were dashed when the public vote placed him 23rd out of the 26 with only 21 points, placing him seventh overall. Submissions for the forthcoming Melodifestivalen are currently and we already have our first confirmed act - The Lovers Of Valdaro.
