Switzerland 2019 | Is Sebalter set for a Eurovision comeback?

Earlier this year, Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR announced that they would be stopping their National Selection 'Die Entscheidungsshow' for Eurovision 2019. The song submission deadline of September 1st has passed and now the next stage in the selection process has begun. As of this morning, the public now have their chance to vote for which songs they feel could get Switzerland a good result next year in Israel and the first batch of songs are now available on the RSI website to be voted for. Amongst these, fans of Eurovision may notice that 2014 representative Sebalter has submitted his new song 'Carry The Light' in a bid to represent Switzerland at Eurovision once again.

Last week, the Swiss singer teased new music with a photo posted on his social media of him in the studio, however fans definitely did not expect that his new release would end up being in contention to represent Switzerland next year. The song, 'Carry The Light' sticks with the sound we've come to love from Sebalter, an anthemic chorus coupled with a beautiful accompanying fiddle instrumental. Of the songs already published to the preselection process, fans may also see some familiar names, including Scilla Hess with her song 'Silence Breakers' who made it to the National Final back in 2011 and also Dianaerika Lettieri with 'Infernal Love' who has had songs in past years preselection process too. You can listen to all of the songs here.

At the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Sebalter performed 'Hunter of Stars' which came a very respectable 13th position in the final with 64 points and this remains the last time Switzerland qualified for the final after four years of failing to make it out of the final. Sebalter's result is also the best result for Switzerland since Vanilla Ninja represented the country in 2005. A jury made up of 120 music and broadcaster professionals and experts will eventually select the song that will represent the nation next year.
