Israel 2018 | Universal Music threatens "Toy" composers with lawsuit

Various Israeli media outlets have announced that Universal Music is threatening the composers of "Toy" with a lawsuit following on from claims that the make-up of the song sound very similar to that of "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes.

"Ynet", an Israeli news and general content website, have reported that Universal Music sent a warning letter to the composers of Toy, Doron Medalie and Stav Berger. They went on to say that if a lawsuit is filed, everyone involved in Toy will suffer financially as song royalty earnings will be put on hold until the case has been heard.

It is believed that Doron Medalie will fly out to Los Angeles to try and resolve this issue. In the meantime, he has made this statement:

"We were surprised to get a letter like this and we are taking care of it. I believe the issue will be resolved in the next two weeks for the best satisfaction of all parties."

Although the EBU have not yet contacted the Israeli production team behind Eurovision 2019, the production team themselves have said they have "no fear" that the claims made by Universal Music will threaten their right to host The Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
