Italy confirms Junior Eurovision 2018 participation

Italy's Junior Eurovision host broadcaster, RAI Gulp, has today confirmed the country's participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 - which will take place in Minsk, Belarus on November 25th. Details about whether RAI Gulp will hold a national final or select Italy's representative internally are, as yet, unknown. Italy were represented in Junior Eurovision 2017 by Maria Iside Fiore and her song 'Scelgo' (I Choose), which came a disappointing 11th despite scoring 86 points. Re-live Maria's Junior Eurovision 2017 performance from Tblisi, Georgia here.
Italy made Junior Eurovision history in 2014, becoming only the second country ever to win the contest on their debut - when Vincenzo Cantiello triumphed in Malta, scoring 159 points with his own song 'Tu primo grande amore'. The only other country to win Junior Eurovision in their debut appearance is Croatia in 2003 when Dino Jelusic won with 'Ti si moja prva ljubav scoring 134 points in Copenhagen, Denmark - although hardly a surprise considering 2003 was the first ever Junior Eurovision. Another weird and wonderful fact about the winning songs of Vincenzo and Dino is that the English translation for the title of both songs is exactly the same 'You are my first love'.
