Kosovo Seeks To Get Full EBU Membership

Eurovision is seeking to get bigger, and bigger. One country in the east is certainly trying to be part of this, as it has been revealed that the Director General of RTK (Kosovo's broadcasting channel) is doing his upmost to get the country a full membership to the EBU.

The director general has already met with the EBU president, Jean-Paul Philippot and partially discussed this. It is hoped that at next weeks general assembly, moves can be made to make the small eastern nation a more permanent member.

Mentor Shala the Director general for RTK has already expressed a desire for the country to be at the Eurovision Song Contest, and has said of their meeting that, "the possibility that RTK becomes a full-fledged member of the EBU and we participate in European Eurovision Song Contest next year".

The country seems keen to be part of Europe's biggest show. However, will other countries want this? Certainly, the Baltic nations seem keen on the idea, with Albania being at the forefront of this. On the other hand, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia seem to oppose the idea. The country has also improved its rights for the LGBT community over the recent years, which certainly would win favour with some fans. Could they muster enough support from other nations?

Time will tell if the country will be accepted. The same issue seems to be raised every year, even with Lichtenstein who want to be a part of Eurovision, but this never materialises.
