Teddy Johnson Passes Away At 98

Sad news has come from the United Kingdom today, as it has been revealed that Teddy Johnson who sang with his wife Pearl Carr, at the Eurovision Song Contest 1959 with the charming little song, "Sing Little Birdie" has died this week at the age of 98.
The song which nearly gave the United Kingdom its first ever win, came second. However, both have fond memories of their time at Eurovision, with Teddy once saying, "I still love singing the song, it has been a very good friend to us over the years". Check the song out below:
Teddy's career began at a very early age where he formed his own band at 15, whilst becoming a professional singer at the age of 18. His early career took to the sea's as he sang on cruise ships, and became quite known amongst the circuit. He met his wife Pearl in 1950, got married in 1955, and the rest they say is history.
It was by chance the pair came to sing for the United Kingdom at Eurovision, both had not heard of it, and decided to enter the national selection with the song "Sing little Birdie" which no other artist would touch.
Despite not winning the competition, both could regularly be seen on the music circuit up until the 1990's where they retired. Both also performed their Eurovision entry some years later on talk shows such as Noel Edmunds and Terry Wogan. In 2015 Teddy, and Pearl celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, and lived as husband and wife in London.

It has been a very sad year, with yet another loss to the Eurovision community. Katie Boyle who presented the Eurovision on four occasions, along with Eurovision's leading lady Lys Assia, who won the first ever competition back in 1956 are just two of several who have sadly passed away this year.
All the team at Eurovoxx would like to send the loved ones, and friends of Teddy Johnson their condolences at this sad time. Thank you Teddy for the music.
