Number 8 | A countdown of Portugal's best at Eurovision

In celebration of Portugal hosting their first ever Eurovision, we have been counting down Eurovoxx's all time favourite entries from Portugal at Eurovision. Taking the number 8 spot is the entry from 2005, it's 2B with "Amar".

In 2005, RTP decided not to use Festival da Canção as their selection process for Eurovision. Instead they opted for an internal selection. They invited a group of songwriters, Alexandre Honrado, Ernesto Leite and José da Ponte to write a song specifically for Eurovision. The songwriters then chose two artists to sing "Amar", Luciana Abreu and Rui Drummond. The duo was called 2B.

Both artists had some experience in music competitions. Rui Drumond had taken part in the first season of Operação Triunfo placing 6th and Luciana Abreu had been a semi finalist in Idolos, the Portuguese version of Pop Idol.

At Eurovision, Portugal performed in third position at the semi final in Kyiv. They received douze points from Germany, Switzerland and France, however a total of 51 points put them in 17th place, and they did not make it to the final.

After Eurovision 2005, Luciana Abreu went on to act in Portuguese soap opera, Floribella, host her own children's show and take part in Dança Comigo (Dancing with the Stars), which she won in 2007.

In 2009, Luciana participated in Festival da Canção with the song "Juntos vamos conseguir" (Yes We Can)". She was the favourite to win the contest and did win the televote. However, low jury marks put her in 3rd place overall.

In 2014, Rui Drumond took part in and won the second season of The Voice Portugal. He was mentored by R&B artist, Anselmo Ralph.

In 2017, he attempted to represent Portugal once again and took part in Festival da Canção with "O Teu Melhor", however, he did not make it to the final.

So, Portugal's 2005 entry is our 8th all-time favourite from Portugal. Who else deserves to be in our countdown? Let us know what you think and check out or list so far!
