How Was Alexander Chosen?
This year Norway stuck to its traditional 'Melodie Grand Prix 2018', which was broadcast live on the 10th March 2018. The edition saw one show comprised of ten artists fight it out to be in the next round of the show. This national final was popular as it contained at least four artists that had represented Norway in the past.
The first heat saw an international jury select the four songs they wanted to progress to the "silver dual". This dual saw four artists become two, and was decided by SMS votes. Alexander Rybak came first with 133, 164 votes, nearly tripling the amount of votes for his nearest rival Rebecca.
The final heat, the "gold dual" saw both fight it out to become Norway's Eurovision representative this year. Again, the winner was decided by SMS votes, and ultimately it was Alexander who won the vote with 71% of the vote compared to Rebecca's 29%. His song, "That's how you write a song" will be Norway's entry this year in Lisbon.

Norway At Eurovision
This year will mark Norway's 57th Eurovision entry. They first debuted in the contest in 1960, and have only missed two shows since. They have won the competition on three occasions, the first came with "Bobbysocks" back in 1985 with, "Lat Det Swing". Ten years later saw "Secret Garden" win the Eurovision in 1995 with "Nocturne", with their final victory coming in 2009 with "Alexader Rybak" and the song "Fairytale".
Regardless of these wins, Norway have also won two other titles. The first being the country that has come last the most. They have achieved this 11 times, of which four of these have scored "Nil Points", which is the second title they have won.
Regardless of this the Nordic nation has made it into the top ten on no less than 23 times, and since the introduction of the semi finals, they have only failed to make it to the Grand Final on three occasions. Can Alexander show the rest of Europe how to write a song this year? In a weeks time we shall find out.
