Meet Benjamin Ingrosso From Sweden

This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May. With less than two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital, Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.
Who Is Benjamin Ingrosso?
Benjamin will be this years Swedish Eurovision representative, and will sing the song "Dance You Off". Another very young singer in the contest he was born in 1997, and is 20 years old. His musical roots started from a young age as he was cast in many musicals, and took the lead role in them. He won the Lila Melodifestivalen in 2016, Let's Dance in 2017 and his greatest achievement was to win the Melodifestivalen this year.
The young singer has many talents, and acting is one of them too, where he performed in several hit Swedish shows. His mum is a famous singer too, and has also appeared in Melodifestivalen in 1985, 1991, 2003, 2010 and Pernilla Wahlgren's most recent performance was back in 2013. Even his grand parents are famous actors. The "Star" quality is a family trait.
He has released 8 singles with "Good Lovin" back in 2010 that went platinum, and hit number ten in the charts. His Eurovision entry "Dance You Off" is his most successful single, having gone to number two in the charts. Benjamin also released two albums which had reasonable success.

How Was Benjamin Ingrosso Chosen?
Sweden once again opted for their traditional 'Melodifestivalen' which was in its 58th year in 2018. The show consisted of four semi finals that housed seven singers, with only two going through from each round from the public vote. Benjamin won his heat. Also chosen were 2 second chance round contestants from each heat.
The final was held on the 10th March 2018, and saw 12 artists fight it out to be Sweden's next Eurovision representative. Benjamin won the public vote with 0.5% of the vote over his nearest rival. However, it was with the international juries that he really scored well, and scored well with all. He beat his nearest rival by over 55 points. The young singer clearly won Melodifestivalen.

Sweden At Eurovision
This year will mark Sweden's 58th Eurovision entry. They have only missed 1964, 1970 and 1976. It is the second most successful countries at the contest, and is the most successful of the 21st century. They have won in 1974 with "Abba", and "Waterloo", 1984 with "Herreys" and "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley". They would then win in 1991 with "Carola" and "Fångad av en stormvind", followed by "Charlotte Nillsson" back in 1999 with "Take Me To Your Heaven". 2012 brought "Loreen" with "Euphoria" with their final win coming from "Mans Zelmerlowe" and his "Heroes"
They hold some pretty impressive statistics. They have 24 top 5 performances, and 39 top 10 performances. Abba who won back in 1974 was voted the best Eurovision winners ever, and is one of the only countries to host the contest in five different decades. The nation has only come last on two occasions, which was back in 1963, and 1977. They have never scored "Nil Points". Since the introduction of the semi finals, they have only failed to qualify on one occasion and that was back in 2010 when Anna Bergendahl sang, "This Is My Life". Could Benjamin make it a 40th top ten performance?
