Meet Alfred and Amaia from Spain!

This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May. With around two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital, Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.
Who are Alfred and Amaia?
21 year old Alfred Garcia hails from the Catalonia region, where he is currently studying for a higher degree in music and jazz at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona. Musical all his life, he produced and released his first album at the age of 15, has auditioned for La Voz (Spanish version of The Voice), and released a musical short film (A Free Christmas Story).
19 year old Amaia Romero is from the Spanish city of Pamplona, and was born into a family of musicians, and like Alfred is currently studying for a degree (in Piano). With an already substantiated career for someone so young, Amaia has taken part in children's talent shows Cántame un canción in 2010, and El número Uno (where she made it to week six).

How were Alfred and Amaia chosen?
Reality show Operación Triunfo was used to select the Spanish entrant this year, following its return to TV screens for the first time since 2011, with a special show dedicated to Eurovision aired on 29 January 2018, seeing the five finalists compete for the right to represent the nation.
Ultimately Alfred and Amaia's duet Tu Canción was chosen by the public, overwhelmingly winning 43% of the vote.
Amaia Romero would eventually go on to win Operación Triunfo.
Spain in The Eurovision Song Contest
Spain debuted at Eurovision in 1961, and have been a main-stay ever since. Winning the contest twice in succession in 1968 - Massiel with the song 'La La La' and 1969 - Salomé with 'Vivo Cantando', and have not since reached the top of the scoreboard. However they have come close on four occasions - the most recent being in 1995 when Anabel Conde came second with her song 'Vuelve Conmigo'.
Spain will be hoping not to replicate last year's placing in Kyiv, when Manel Navarro came bottom of the scoreboard with his song 'Do It For Your Lover', which only took 5 points.
As a member of the Big Five - Spain qualifies automatically for the final, along with France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
