Meet Lea Sirk from Slovenia!


This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May. With around two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital, Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.


Who is Lea?


Lea Sirk is a 28 year old singer-songwriter from Koper, Slovenia. Lea's career as a singer-songwriter began in 2006 and she went onto release her first single "Povej Mi, kdaj" in 2007. She has released many singles since then, with her debut album, "Roža" being released in 2014. As well as singing, Lea is also a classically trained Flautist.


Lea has attempted to represent Slovenia in Eurovision on three occasions. In 2009, she participated in EMA with her song "Znamenje iz sanj", finishing in 9th place. She returned to EMA a year later with "Vampir je moj poet" that finished in 10th place. After a few years break, she was back again in 2017 with her song "Freedom" but ultimately failed to qualify from the semi-final.

How was Lea chosen?


In September 2017, Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO opened up their submission period for Eurovision 2018, and once all the songs had been submitted, an expert committee chose 16 songs that would take part in EMA 2018.


Lea participated in the first semi final and was one of 8 acts to make it through to the final. In the final, Lea was awarded the ticket to Lisbon, winning the jury vote with 68 points and coming third with the televoters, giving her an overall score of 116, just 10 points ahead of televote winners BQL.


Slovenia in The Eurovision Song Contest


Slovenia made their Eurovision debut in Millstreet in 1993 with 1X Band and have only been absent from 2 contests since - 1994 and 2000. Their best results have been in 1995 and 2001 when Darja Švajger and Nuša Derenda both achieved 7th place with 84 points and 70 points respectively. Their highest score in Eurovision comes from Maja Keuc in 2011 who achieved 112 points in the semi final and 96 points in the final.

Since the introduction of the semi final in 2004, Slovenia have only made it to the final on 4 occasions out of 14 participations, with their most recent appearance in the 2015 final with Maraaya.
